Dr Tan began his career in reconstructive plastic surgery, managing a wide range of congenital conditions, traumatic injuries and complex reconstructive cases. Following specialist plastic surgery training in Singapore, Dr Tan further refined his skills through advanced fellowship training at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, where he developed expertise in cleft, jaw and aesthetic surgery. He also underwent specialised training in ear reconstruction under Dr Satoru Nagata in Japan, one of the world's leading authorities in microtia reconstruction.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr Tan volunteers with Operation Smile, participating in medical missions that provide surgical care for children with cleft lip and palate deformities in underserved communities.

Outside of work, Dr Tan enjoys assembling intricate plastic models, a hobby that reflects the patience and precision he brings to his work as a plastic surgeon. Over the years, he has built a collection of more than 300 hand-assembled die-cast cars, Gundam models and Star Wars collectibles.
