Experience and Training
Dr Tan began his career in reconstructive plastic surgery, managing a wide range of congenital conditions, traumatic injuries and complex reconstructive cases. This experience continues to shape his approach to both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, with careful consideration given to anatomy, function and long-term outcomes.
Following specialist plastic surgery training in Singapore, Dr Tan further refined his skills through advanced fellowship training at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, where he developed expertise in cleft, jaw and aesthetic surgery. He also underwent specialised training in ear reconstruction under Dr Satoru Nagata in Japan, one of the world's leading authorities in microtia reconstruction.
Today, Dr Tan continues to combine this international experience with a thoughtful approach to reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
Clinical Interests
Dr Tan provides care across a broad range of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery procedures. His clinical interests include eyelid surgery, breast surgery, ear reconstruction, cleft surgery and aesthetic plastic surgery, drawing on years of specialist training and international experience.
Every treatment begins with a detailed assessment of the patient's concerns, anatomy and goals, allowing Dr Tan to recommend an approach tailored to each individual's needs and expectations.
Eyelid Surgery
Dr Tan has extensive experience performing eyelid surgery to address both aesthetic concerns and functional conditions affecting the upper and lower eyelids. Whether creating a natural-looking double eyelid, correcting drooping eyelids or reducing eye bags, his approach focuses on preserving facial harmony while achieving balanced, long-lasting results.
Ear Reconstruction
Ear reconstruction is one of Dr Tan's key subspecialty interests. He is one of the very few surgeons in Singapore providing specialised ear reconstruction surgery for patients with congenital ear conditions such as microtia. His experience spans both reconstructive and aesthetic ear procedures, with treatment plans carefully tailored to each patient's anatomy, functional needs and long-term outcomes.
Cleft Surgery
Dr Tan has extensive experience in the surgical management of cleft lip, cleft palate and other congenital craniofacial conditions. His reconstructive training has equipped him to manage complex cases with careful attention to both function and appearance, supporting patients through every stage of treatment. Beyond clinical practice, Dr Tan continues to contribute to cleft care through Operation Smile, providing reconstructive surgery for children with cleft conditions during medical missions.
Cosmetic Surgery
Dr Tan performs cosmetic plastic surgery with an emphasis on achieving harmonious, balanced results that complement each patient's individual features. Whether enhancing facial features or addressing aesthetic concerns, every treatment is planned with careful consideration of the patient's facial features, treatment goals and overall facial harmony.
Through detailed consultations and personalised treatment planning, Dr Tan works closely with each patient to recommend procedures that align with their individual needs and expectations.
Professional Appointments and Contributions
In addition to his clinical practice at SW1 Plastic Surgery, Dr Tan continues to contribute to the field of plastic surgery through public hospital appointments and volunteer work.
As a Visiting Consultant to the Departments of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), he remains involved in the care of patients requiring reconstructive surgery.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr Tan volunteers with Operation Smile, participating in medical missions that provide surgical care for children with cleft lip and palate deformities in underserved communities.
Beyond the Operating Theatre
Inspired by his father, a cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr Tan developed an interest in surgery from a young age. Today, that same dedication to craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail continues to shape his approach to patient care.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Tan regularly contributes to professional education and public discussions on plastic surgery. His perspectives have been featured by publications including CNA Luxury and TODAY, and he also serves as a speaker and trainer at professional workshops, supporting the ongoing education of fellow surgeons.
Outside of work, Dr Tan enjoys assembling intricate plastic models, a hobby that reflects the patience and precision he brings to his work as a plastic surgeon. Over the years, he has built a collection of more than 300 hand-assembled die-cast cars, Gundam models and Star Wars collectibles.
