Does Fat Grow Back After Liposuction?

Fat cells that have been removed through liposuction will never “grow back.” However, you can still gain weight if you do not maintain your post-liposuction weight well. This is because not all fat cells are removed from the target areas during liposuction; which means that remaining fat cells may still expand. It is important for patients to know that the results of liposuction require effort to maintain through a healthy diet and active lifestyle.

How much fat is removed during VASER liposuction?

The amount of fat that can be safely removed from a single VASER liposuction in Singapore depends on the patient’s general health, body fat percentage, and body weight. Typically, the liposuction surgeon will recommend removing no more than 5 litres of fat per session. If additional fat removal is necessary, you may have to return for another treatment session after 5–6 weeks.

How to prepare for liposuction?

In order to minimize risks and ensure a smoother recovery, here are some ways to prepare for your liposuction in Singapore:

Quit smoking at least four weeks before and after the surgery, as these may weaken your body’s ability to heal properly.
If you are taking blood-thinning medications, your doctor will advise on when you should temporarily stop taking them, as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
Do not put on any makeup, body creams, lotions, or moisturisers on the day of the liposuction surgery.
Refrain from eating and drinking around 8 hours before the surgery, or as advised by your doctor.

What is recovery after liposuction like?

Liposuction surgery is typically an outpatient surgery, so you can go home on the same day after the procedure.

Your plastic surgeon will require that you wear a compression garment to wrap around the treatment area for around six weeks. This will help to reduce swelling and discomfort, and provide gentle support to the treated area.

Medications to reduce pain and risk of infection will be prescribed; and proper wound care instructions will be given. Your Singapore liposuction surgeon will also arrange for follow-up checks to ensure that you are healing properly. Full recovery may take a few months to complete.

Will I have tighter skin after VASER liposuction?

While traditional liposuction does not normally come with skin-tightening properties, the VASER liposuction offered at our clinic is an advanced technique which can provide moderate skin-tightening, further enhancing one’s muscle definition and body contours.
